A Prayer to Live in Freedom based on Galatians 5:13-14

Lord God, You call us to live in freedom. Yet we cannot use our freedom to satisfy and rationalize our sinful and selfish nature. Instead, we must use our freedom to serve one another humbly in love. Lord, Your whole law can be summed up in Your command to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We know that serving others serves You, our God and Father. May our freedom always rest in Your love and mercy. We ask this of You through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in unity with the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen

  1. John tells us in his First Epistle that unless we live in fellowship with each other, the blood of Christ won’t cleanse us of our sins. The parable of the Good Samaritan is a reminder for all devout religious practitioners to observe the spirit of the law which God has inscribed in our hearts, As James put it: “Faith without works (sincere charitable acts) is dead.”

    1. Amen! And St. JP the Great was quoted as saying, “Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do as we ought.” Serving others is what we “ought.”
