Exodus 37:12-14
Psalm 130:1-8
Romans 8:8-11
John 11:1-45

When [Jesus] heard that [Lazarus] was ill, he remained for two days in the place where he was.
John 11:6

God tells us often to wait. As an impatient sort (though likely no more so than most who read this), I will admit to a bit of frustration for all the waiting and keeping watch. Even Jesus waited until Lazarus died before going to Bethany. In doing so, however, Jesus answers the question we all have–why wait and what are we waiting for? In some instances, clearly God wants us to grow in our perseverance, which may stem some of our entitlement issues (maybe). In some other cases, God knows more than we do and knows that waiting for the right moment–God’s moment–will be beneficial to us in ways we did not imagine. In the case of Jesus and Lazarus, Jesus gives us a precursor of what he will do after his death. And this is, of course, all for the glory of God and for love of us, God’s created beings. So what and why? We wait because God knows what is good for us and we wait for the goodness of God to be fulfilled. It’s that simple.

My Lord God, may I be patient in waiting for You to fulfill Your will through me. May I know in my heart that You are love and can only do good things for me. Even when it is hard, Lord, I trust in You and in Your Son, our savior. Have mercy on me. Amen

That was absolutely TIMELY. We are in a season of waiting. It’s not easy but we are determined to trust GOD in the waiting and praying to LEARN in it too.
