Release

Is the leaf afraid as he releases from the branch?
Or does he understand the sacrifice made?
Surely he knew having lost his shiny green-tinted glow,
drying to a colorful yellow or gold or red or purple,
he was being prepared for something more.
A final splendor for all to see.
Yet perhaps perceiving the peak of his pictorial posture,
  he considered his blessing complete.
No he surely understood he was born for the Tree to grow.
And to do so in the coming season of darkness,
he would need to release so others would follow his example
when the embracing warmth follows the colorless and frigid stillness.
Giving glory to what has been while heralding what is to come,
he increased the majesty of the Tree from which he descended
by his willing sacrifice.
