Hanging on the Wall

Are you merely a decoration?
To hide the crack on the wall?
Or did your hanging cause it?
To the learned you are a symbol of folly
A life of civil rebellion ending in shame

Yet is seems illogical to deduce
That your quietly accepting pain is shameful
When what you taught was love
And what you gave was mercy
You forgave sin to offer complete healing

So it must be

You are neither decoration nor folly
But an offering of humility
To show mercy to the unmerciful
To give love to the unloved
To extend dignity to the undignified

You are the Lord my Savior
Broken so that we may fully assemble
Holding fast to mercy, love, dignity
So I too can show, give, extend
And live a life worthy of your sacrifice
